Youth Topping Out (SHAC)

SHAC is hosting a Topping Out Instructor training class for youth, targeting SHAC, CAC & Alamo youth, male and female, who have a desire to become BSA trained Climbing / Rappelling Instructors-In-Training. The class consists of a night meeting before the tower class, a two day tower class at El Rancho Cima, followed by another night class before the 2 day Real Rock Class at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, near Fredericksburg, TX. The students should have a desire to advance climbing instructor skills to be applied for unit climbing/rappelling activities or possibly for council summer camp staff work.

The successful completion of this class grants an Instructor-In-Training card, good until 31 December 2014. This allows this youth to function as an instructor under the guidance of a BSA Instructor or BSA Director. It also may be all that is required for a summer camp climbing staff position, depending on that camp’s training requirements. This may vary depending on the council involved.

Prerequisites:

Must have 16th birthday no later than 31 December 2012.

Must be a mature youth with a desire to learn and then help with BSA climbing / rappelling activities.

This class will be open to male and female youth from Sam Houston Area Council, Alamo Area Council, and Capitol Area Council.

Dates:

El Rancho Cima Tower Class: 30 March – 1 April 2012 (show on Friday night, class starts at 0830 on Saturday).

Pre-Tower Class: 2 hour class at SHAC (or other Council designated location), TBD

Real Rock Class: 4 – 6 May 2012

Pre-Real Rock Class: 2 hour class at SHAC (or other Council designated location), TBD

Class will be limited to 16 students.
